Five years ago we planted 150 historical cider varieties in an orchard that we continue to add to today. What do you do if you have 150 different varieties of cider apple? Make cider!!
Having grown up on the world famous Ross on Wye Cider and Perry company cider farm, fourth generation cider maker Toby married into a family that already had long standing connections with cider production and the stage was set to pursue this Herefordshire right of passage. This passion and knowledge would generate some interesting and quaffable cider and fitted well with our use of Shropshire sheep to graze the family orchards.
In 2014 we produced our first batch (very small scale) of whole juice cider and in 2019 we won the Yew tree cider and Perry trials for best dry cider, Mike Healey and Toby Lovell Father and Son in law team headed up to collect their much deserved certificate and accolade with the next phase of cidery ideas already ringing in their heads.
We have a lot of exiting ideas about where to go to from here so please watch this space and get ready for the next chapter of the cider story…
